To create an inclusive climate where diversity thrives we must address the small, yet powerful, biases frequently communicated in the workplace. This workshop addresses one of the most hidden barriers to success microinequities. Microinequities are the small, subtle, frequently unconscious messages we all send that can devalue, discourage and ultimately impair performance at all levels in the workplace. These messages can take the shape of looks, gestures or tones, nuance, inflection, inference and even the absence of a message can often be a message in itself.
Research shows that words mean very little in terms of the real messages that we send and receive. The meaning of our messages is frequently delivered through micromessages. These subtle, often subconscious signals represent the core of the messages we send, and can either demonstrate inclusion or exclusion.
This program gets to the DNA of culture change by enabling people to master the skills of interpreting messages that drive behavior change at its core. Learn to identify subtle assumptions that may impede effective working relationships in a diverse workplace. Gain a new understanding of the influence that subtle messages can have on the motivation, morale and performance of others and explore concepts and skills that can be applied in creating a more inclusive workplace.
